    That movie was a puzzler to me. I knew the general story (have not read the book, but will now on your recommendation), but the pacing was off and I think Leo just made every scene he was in dull and plodding. And what was with the Radio Play ending? It was out of left field and left me with so many more questions about the timeline of the story. A sad swan song to Scorsese’s career.

    • I can imagine it would have been quite confusing without the book as a basis! I agree about the Radio Play ending, which I found weak. I heard it was because he wanted to play up the contrast between how this tragedy was handled historically versus how it should have been. I got that intent. I just didn’t think it worked like he thought it did.
