  1. I saw that this movie came up again just recently on TCM and wondered about capturing it. However, I enjoyed it a year or two ago and I’m not sure I’m quite ready to watch it again. This doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy it, it’s a fun movie! I’ve always wondered how much the wife knows about the cop’s plans… does she collude in her husband’s murder, or not?

  2. Loved your write-up, Leah. I’m quite fond of The Prowler — it doesn’t get nearly enough attention. And I appreciate your focus on Van Heflin’s character, which I believe is one of his best and most interesting. And now I want to re-watch Blood Simple and Unfaithful!

    • Thank you! I agree that it should get more attention. I could have used more time with that character. But then, I always feel that way about Van Heflin’s work. Even if his role isn’t very interesting, he gives such a great performance that it becomes so. But in this case, we have good writing AND a good actor:)

  3. Loved your description: “the stamped-down passion”. Perfect!

I’ve not seen The Prowler, but I just watched the trailer on YouTube and wowee! I’ve got it bookmarked to watch later. Thanks!

This was a useful post for me since I’d never watched film noirs. I’d recently watched Kubrick’s The Killing and was disappointed to see the anti-hero go down. Now I see that’s probably a common noir outcome.
