  1. Released at a time when I didn’t attend movies very often (busy and lack of funds – oh, that those were the prices today!), I have yet to catch up with Somewhere in Time. It does sound like the perfect “home alone” on a winter’s day movie.

  2. Romances are a bit out of my usual wheelhouse, but an image search shows some rather gorgeous period fashion for Jane Seymour, and I am a sucker for a good vintage gown, even if its not strictly historically accurate.

Although is snarky is the current trend, we all need a bit of sentiment and sweetness sometimes. I don’t see the guilty aspect, as the film seems charming 🙂

  3. I’ve always loved the term “guilty pleasure.” To me it’s always sounded as if there should be a sentencing involved for admitting we have them. But we all do; we wouldn’t be film fans if we didn’t!

  4. As a hopeless romantic, I agree 100% with you about this film. The flawless casting, costumes, and music are a delight. I had no idea it was based on a book and will be keeping an eye out for that. Thanks for the info and the lovely read!

  5. I’ve only seen “Somewhere In Time” once, but your review brings back memories. How cool is it that there are clubs celebrating this movie? Thanks again for joining the blogathon–this review is great! 🙂

  6. I’m another one who’s not yet seen this flick, despite the many favourable reviews I’ve read. Also: It’s wonderful to read that Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve became lifelong friends.

  7. Jane was indeed very beautiful, and still is now that she’s older. And Reeve? Swoon. This is a film we must see with our hearts, and not rationalize too much, or we’ll miss the fun. Great review.
    Cheers!

  8. I live in Michigan my whole life and always have loved somewhere in time and most Romances are not typically my cup of tea but this is so beautifully made, the music, Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve it was just magic. the Movie was filmed on Machinac Island. If you ever get a chance try to visit. very close to the Machinaw Bridge no motor vehicles are allowed and just a beautiful Island on Lake Huron. There are some spots marked for spots in the Movie. For instance the schene where Richard and Elise first meet in 1912 has a nice marker with a picture. Also there is a studio on the island where the play was put on and the seat that Christopher Reeve sat on is marked. Of course you can’t miss the Grand Hotel and looks just as it did when the movie was made. Also one of the shops in town is the coin store in the movie where Richard buys coins which now sells Somewhere in Time memorabiliia. They have a Somewhere in time weekend that they celebrate for many years. Christopher Reeve actually before the accident attended and Jane Seymour has come a few times people dress up in period clothing with lots of special events. Unfortunately they hold it in October which is ify weather wise for that time of the year.

      • Literally the only way to the islands are on thelarge jetships the carry100-200 and its a wonderful ride to the island. you disenbark and hear the clomp, clomp of horses going down the main street. the city area, homes and many places to stay are all in buildings 100 plus years old it does transform you back many great shops and restuarants. you can take a carrage ride around the island or rent bicycles. the back of the island is quite as you go through the woods where the front of the isands feature the Grand hotel of course homes and other hotels. It does take you back and actually where Christopher Reeve purchases coins in the movie is a somewhere in time gift shop now on the island. I hope you have a chance to visit its simply a jewel.
