  1. It’s funny you should choose this one. I actually just did a weird article about this same movie a few weeks ago (http://hitchcocksworld.blogspot.ca/2014/07/the-red-shoes-line-cross-and-curve.html).

The Red Shoes is an amazing movie. I’ve never seen a ballet in my life but that great big dance sequence was unbelievable. Before that I wasn’t entirely sure if I was going to like the movie or not but then there was the great big haunting sequence that presented the story of the Red Shoes (granted, it was probably heavily abridged in order to avoid taking up too much of the movie’s runtime, but still nonetheless amazing) and I was hooked. I never thought there would be a film that would actually make me appreciate ballet as an art form, but here it is.

  2. Nice review! I watched this again and again as a child, I too wanted to dance just like Vicky (we share the same name so surely the same talents?!) I think I watched it too regularly to appreciate the beauty of the cinematography – I just take it for granted!

  3. Wow- I definitely need to watch this soon! You mentioned it to me years ago, but I never got around to it. Now to find it…

  4. I must say I really enjoyed this post. It was nice to see insights into The Red Shoes from someone who actually has participated in ballet. One of the reasons I love The Red Shoes is that The Archers made sure they had talented dancers and not just good actors. And what a dancer Moira Shearer was! I am not sure she was the equal of Dame Margot Fonteyn, but she came closer than most ballerinas! Thank you so much for participating in the blogathon!

  5. I was just in my Google+ profile and my cover picture there is Moira in The Red Shoes! What a coincidence!
I loved to read the visions about this film coming from a former ballet dancer. I had never had experience with dances, and I can only imagine how demanding being a ballerina can be. But, again, who wouldn’t want to be part of this magical world (as well as the show business world, so harsh but so beautiful)?
    Thanks for the kind comment!
    Kisses!
