  1. WONDERFUL! I love that you chose to spotlight Mae West as a pioneer because most people just remember a caricature of her on-screen self. I recently saw an interview she did with Dick Cavett and loved that she still remembered every single line she’d ever written. I mean, I can’t remember what I blogged about yesterday. She was a brilliant and brave woman who paved her own path and people had no choice but to move out of her way. Despite the resistance she faced she made her mark. Absolutely essential entry to the blogathon. Thanks so much for contributing it!

    • Thanks, Aurora! I love this blogathon, and enjoyed your post so much. It’s true that her full impact isn’t always appreciated. How much we all owe her! I love knowing that she remembered her work so well. Thanks for sharing that.

  2. Love this, Leah! I adore Mae West, and I agree with all of your points. She was really something special and your post truly did her justice.

  3. This is a great tribute to a remarkable woman. The fact that Mae West would still be considered a groundbreaker if she were performing today says a lot about her talent – but, sadly, it also says a lot about women’s frustrating lack of progress in showbiz.

I can’t not laugh at her lines, even when I know what’s coming. She showed ’em how it’s done! Thank you for joining the blogathon, and for bringing Ms West to the party! 🙂

  4. Great post! I agree that we need to give more credit to Mae West fow being a badass. She should be seen as a feminist role model. I loved what you said about her lapidating her lines until they got perfect.
Don’t forget to read my contribution to the blogathon! 🙂
    Kisses!
