People ARE strange, but classic films live on forever, so screw ’em. (I like to think of Lionel Stander as Corny Cobb in MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN saying this. lol). So glad I happened upon your blog! It’s a joy, truly.

    • Thank you for reading and commenting! I appreciate it so much. Luckily, their strangeness is usually entertaining:) Do you know I’ve only seen part of that film? I don’t know why. I love Capra. On my list:) Leah

  2. I got a chuckle when I read this.

I used to get frustrated when I thought I wasn’t getting enough visitors or comments, but I eventually became philosophical about it. I’m doing it for myself, and if people like reading it, great. I’m not going to get hung up on comments or visitor numbers.

I can also appreciate your thoughts on sitting in front of a keyboard waiting for inspiration. I always remember that quote from Dorothy Parker: “I hate writing, but I love having written”. Nobody ever summed it up better.

    Keep up the good work!

      • After more than 7 1/2 years of blogging at Carole & Co., along with 2,935 entries as of this writing, I’ve long since stopped worrying about visitor numbers or the amount of comments (indeed, a majority of my entries never receive comments at all). What’s important for me is creating a resource people can turn to for information and for what I hope they deem expertise (in my case, on Carole Lombard, her life and times and people she knew and worked with, and related topics such as memorabilia or Los Angeles and Hollywood history). That in and of itself keeps me going, and the compliments I’ve received about this site — which has led me to move to Los Angeles last year to pursue film history research, screenwriting and such — make it all worthwhile. If Carole Lombard, who died more than 13 1/2 years before I was born, knew how much she has changed my life since this all began in June 2007, I think she’d be amazed…and, I hope, thrilled.

        • That’s so exciting that she has had such an impact on your life! I wasn’t a huge My Man Godfrey fan, so it took me longer to warm to her. But after To Be or Not to Be, and learning about what an amazing woman she was in real life, I’ve become very intrigued and impressed by her. I’ve read about her on your site multiple times; I’m so glad I have it to turn to as I watch more of her work.

  3. Happy blog-versary Leah! Identified with a lot of these points. My most popular post last year was ‘Sex and the Single Girl’, a pretty obscure Natalie Wood film. I’m pretty sure most readers who landed on the page didn’t even who Wood was…. as the saying going, sex sells 😉

I’m totally with you on strangers being a motivator, especially good writers with blogs that I admire. It can be difficult to keep up the pace and stay focused on blogging, but there are huge rewards to it. I also agree that it’s random what posts keep getting hits. I’ve tried not to think about it too much because it can drive you a bit crazy.
